Back to All Events

Term 4 Preaching

Earlier this year we journeyed through the book of 1 Samuel together, learning about the pattern of Godly leadership from the prophet Samuel, to Israel’s first king Saul, and the tension as David is anointed as the next king but spends his years fleeing Saul.

We’re continuing onto the next book, 2 Samuel, which covers the era of David’s rule.

It’s a bleak picture. 2 Samuel is full of disappointment and failure, conflict and sin. If we read it as its own story, it’s hard to believe that we’re any the wiser about God’s heart through THIS king.

As we read these narrative events, we need to know that the end of the story doesn’t come at the end of 2 Samuel. Rather, we understand them knowing that 1) David’s kingship was never God’s primary intent, 2) we are pointed to Jesus, the future eternal king, 3) we understand that for all the Kingdom’s (and David’s) failures, God’s grace and His promises remain - they are unbreakable.
